How do you attach a boom pole?
If you are into filmmaking or audio recording, you might need to use a boom pole to capture high-quality audio. A boom pole is a long pole that allows you to hold a microphone or a camera above the subject without being in the shot. Boom poles come in different types such as carbon fiber boom poles, telescopic boom poles, and microphone boom poles. Additionally, there are also boom poles designed for action cameras like the GoPro extension pole. Whatever type of boom pole you use, attaching it properly is crucial for successful audio or video recording. In this blog, we will discuss how to attach a boom pole.
Determine the type of boom pole you have
Before you attach your boom pole, you need to know what type of boom pole you have. Different types of boom poles have different ways of attaching them. For instance, a microphone boom pole usually has a threaded stud at the end, which can be screwed into a microphone shock mount. A carbon fiber boom pole or telescopic boom pole might come with a mount or adapter that allows you to attach a microphone or a camera.
Prepare the boom pole and the device
Once you have determined the type of boom pole you have, you need to prepare the boom pole and the device you will be attaching to it. If you are using a microphone boom pole, you need to attach a microphone shock mount to the end of the pole. The shock mount will hold the microphone securely and reduce handling noise. If you are using a carbon fiber boom pole or telescopic boom pole, you need to attach the mount or adapter to the end of the pole. Make sure the mount or adapter is securely attached to the pole.
If you are attaching a camera to the boom pole, you need to make sure the camera is properly balanced and secured. Use a VPTCP Camera Pole Store or any other camera mounting device to secure the camera to the boom pole. For a GoPro extension pole, you need to attach a GoPro mount to the end of the pole.
Attach the device to the boom pole
Once you have prepared the boom pole and the device, it's time to attach them. If you are using a microphone boom pole, screw the threaded stud on the pole into the microphone shock mount. Make sure the microphone is facing the right direction and is pointing towards the subject.
If you are using a carbon fiber boom pole or telescopic boom pole, attach the mount or adapter to the end of the pole. Make sure the mount or adapter is securely attached to the pole. Then attach the microphone or the camera to the mount or adapter.
If you are using a GoPro extension pole, attach the GoPro mount to the end of the pole. Then attach the GoPro camera to the mount.
Adjust the boom pole
Once you have attached the device to the boom pole, it's time to adjust the boom pole to the desired height and angle. If you are using a microphone boom pole, hold the pole with both hands and position the microphone close to the subject but out of the shot. If you are using a carbon fiber boom pole or telescopic boom pole, adjust the length of the pole to the desired height. Make sure the pole is fully extended and locked in place.
If you are using a GoPro extension pole, adjust the pole to the desired height and angle. Make sure the camera is facing the right direction and is pointing towards the subject.
Secure the boom pole
Once you have adjusted the boom pole to the desired height and angle, you need to secure it in place. If you are using a microphone boom pole, use your body or a boom operator to hold the pole steady. If you are using a carbon fiber boom pole or telescopic boom pole, use a boom pole holder or a clamp to secure the pole to a stand or a tripod. This will prevent the pole from moving and producing unwanted noise. For a GoPro extension pole, make sure the pole is securely attached to your body or a stable object to prevent it from shaking or falling during recording.
